If you're buying a used car, two criteria are likely to be at the top of your mind. We're talking about age and mileage. At Hall Acura Virginia Beach, we sell plenty of pre-owned Acura models with varying mileage and from different model years, but is one of these factors more important than the other?
Let's take a closer look at how age and mileage affect pre-owned cars.
Shopping by Mileage
Many drivers don't want a car with many miles on it, which we understand. A vehicle with 100,000 miles on it has fewer miles left to drive than one with 60,000 miles on it, right? Not necessarily. How a car was cared for matters a lot more than the number on the odometer.
There's also good mileage and bad mileage. Highway driving, where your car can fire on all cylinders, is often considered good mileage. Bad mileage can be something like a short trip around town, where your car never really gets going and has to brake frequently. You want a car with more good mileage, and we'll come back to that in a second.
Shopping by Age
The age of a used car can also help determine whether or not it's the right vehicle for you. Obviously, newer cars have newer tech. Also consider that a redesign could completely change how a car looks, inside and out, from model year to model year.
The age of a vehicle could also help you determine how much good mileage is on it.
The Sweet Spot
So how do you tell how much good mileage is on a used car? You want to consider the age and the mileage, along with the average number of miles drivers tend to travel each year. Generally, drivers put 12,000 to 15,000 miles on their car each year if they're putting a significant amount of good mileage on it.
So a five-year old car with 60,000 miles on it is more likely to have more good mileage on it than an eight-year old car with 50,000 miles on it. Our Acura dealers can answer any questions that you have about used cars, mileage, or anything else, so visit us in Virginia Beach today!
